Two CCU students win Yeti FLW College Fishing Tournament on Lake Hartwell
Max McQuaide of Tyngsborough, Mass., and Grant Tattersall, of Conway, S.C., won the YETI FLW College Fishing tournament at Lake Hartwell presented by Costa with a five-bass limit weighing 13 pounds, 11 ounces. This tournament took place Nov. 1 on Lake Hartwell on the South Carolina-Georgia border. McQuaide and Tattersall represented Coastal Carolina University and won the tournement by catching five bass weighing nearly 14 pounds. The duo won $2,000 in prize money and earned a spot in the 2020 FLW College Fishing National Championship.

Six CCU Students Have Been Recognized as "Spirit of the Chanticleer" Award Finalists
The goal of the "Spirit of the Chanticleer" award is to recognize students from each class who demonstrate excellence in school spirit as part of Homecoming week. Applicants must have at least a 2.75 GPA and be in good standing with the University. Their application must demonstrate their involvement on campus and provide a video response to the questions, "What does school spirit mean to you and how do you show it?" and "What is a platform, social awareness issue, non-profits, etc. that you are passionate about and why?" Six finalists were selected with three coming from primarly in-person classes and three from primarly online classes.

CCU students present at Undergraduate Research Competition
More than 120 Coastal Carolina University students presented their research at the Undergraduate Research Competition April 16-17. Students represented various majors and research topics, and they presented either oral or poster presentations. The Undergraduate Research Competition is a spring tradition at Coastal Carolina University.

CCU students win photography contest after study abroad trips
Three students who recently traveled abroad as part of Coastal Carolina University's Education Abroad program won a photography contest hosted by the Center for Global Engagement. The photos were displayed in the student union as part of a photography exhibit for several weeks.

CCU announces Homecoming Court for 2018
Eight students have been nominated for Homecoming Court at Coastal Carolina University for 2018. The Homecoming theme for the University this year is "Haunted Halloween," and Homecoming events have included fall festivals, a farmer's market, a zombie run, a trunk or treat for the community, and more, culminating in the football game versus Appalachian State on Nov. 3.

CCU holds inaugural Miss Teal and Bronze Pageant
"Twelve Phenomenal Women of the '90s," the inaugural Miss Teal and Bronze Pageant, was held recently at Coastal Carolina University as part of Homecoming Week. The contestants were judged on their talent performances, public speaking skills and their poise in swimwear and evening gowns. Previously, the pageant was called Miss Coastal Carolina University. The Miss Teal and Bronze pageant was a part of Homecoming Week and was sponsored by Coastal Activities Board.

CCU students invited to capitol for Posters on the Hill
Three Coastal Carolina University students have been selected to present their research project in the 21st annual Posters on the Hill, an annual research competition sponsored by the Council on Undergraduate Research held in Washington, D.C. Students Kerry Dittmeier, Nancy Phillips and Emma Kroger, all juniors who are Swain Scholars, have gathered information on public perceptions about homeless people and plan to compare public opinion findings with real data collected through firsthand interviews. CCU is the only university in the state of South Carolina invited to participate in the April 25-26 event. More than 300 applications were received from around the country, and only 60 posters were selected to be presented on Capitol Hill.
