Matthew Zellars graduated from Coastal Carolina University

Matthew Zellars, of Hackettstown, NJ, graduated with a Bachelor of Science Business Administration in Management.

Zellars was among 1,081 candidates for graduation at Coastal Carolina University's Spring 2014 commencement ceremonies. U.S. Poet Laureate Natasha Trethewey, the commencement speaker, urged the Class of 2014 to embrace the responsibility their education has given them, to pursue the truth, and to cultivate a sense of historical awareness and civic duty.

Trethewey received the honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters at the ceremony.

Seven students received the President's Award for Academic Achievement, which recognizes students with the highest cumulative grade point averages. The following recipients of the award all had perfect 4.0 grade point averages, graduating summa cum laude: Chelsey M. Beese of Green Bay, Wisc., with a dual bachelor's degree in applied mathematics and marine science; Emily K. Bernard of Myrtle Beach with a degree in accounting; Richard D. Floyd Jr. of Murrells Inlet, with a degree in applied physics; Tonya M. Hewitt of Conway with a degree in elementary education; Jessie N. Rowan of Mullins, with a degree in elementary education; Aaron J. Smith of Conway, with a dual degree in computer science and applied mathematics; and Matthew C. Tyler of Loris, with a degree in history.
